All Good Deeds

About being cranky on the front desk and snapping at someone: it’s so tempting to let loose or even just give what you’re getting from a guest/client/customer, but someone will spread bad news or pass along a bad experience so fast, no matter how much they were responsible for it, that it can ruin you very quickly.

My mother just reminded me of that, which is something she learned from one of her previous bosses who was amazing at customer service. Read more »

So long, farewell – Clearing my throat

Posted in Cooking, Food, Marina Grand, Port 412, Tulips on June 22nd, 2009 by Colin

While it may not seem like a coincidence after such a crazy-ass weekend at the front desk and then working 3 days in a row of the front desk and baking thing, which is exhausting, mostly because it completely screws up my sleep schedule and I start getting a wee bit cranky at the front desk (never a good thing), I gave my 2-week notice early Sunday morning before I went home after baking. We don’t need no stinkin’ regular sleep!

Posted in Marina Grand on June 17th, 2009 by Colin

I’ve certainly worked more hours before, but never hours that messed up my sleep schedule as much as my current schedule does.

Front desk/Baking

  • Monday: Off
  • Tuesday: Off
  • Wednesday: 2-10p
  • Thursday: Noon-8p/9-1a
  • Friday: 2-10p/10p-3a
  • Saturday: 2-10p/10p-3a
  • Sunday: 12-8p

I can say that the human being is a remarkably resilient organism and at the same time, the fastest way to go insane is be chronically and severely sleep deprived. I’m looking forward to working a semi-normal schedule (which in food service is approximately 11a-10p, Wednesday-Sunday) when I start my new job.

I’m dozing off at the computer as I write this. Time for bed.
