Packing It In

One of the worst parts about moving is trying to find boxes for everything. The best resource will probably be the local supermarket, as long as they don’t completely destroy the boxes. For years after I moved from Oregon, the sound of a tape gun gave me chills. I think I’m sufficiently recovered to start taping up boxes again without crying.

Then there’s the question of what to keep. I’m planning on moving in with my parents for a few months, and then to S. Korea, so I’m not going to need much in either location, especially in Korea, probably just some clothes, books, my kitchen knives, and some toiletries. And my yoga mat.

In the kitchen, I’ll be giving away most everything, including a few pans, my Mixmaster, maybe my food processor, most of my small tools, all of my bakeware, all of my silverware, plates, glasses, and mugs.

As for my pantry, all it goes. I’m sure I’ve still got some things I picked up when I first started cooking in Boston, over 17 years ago. Anyone want some dried tree ear fungus?

I don’t know about the fossilized tree fungus, but if there’s any possiblity that you’d be parting with the (HEAVY, BULKY) mortar and pestle . . . . .

Doh! It’s one of the few things I’d like to keep, although I have more of a “it’s cool” than a sentimental attachment to it, which means I can pick up another one anytime I’d like, so it’s yours!
